It was a clear, sunny day as Ash, Misty, Pikachu and Brock headed through the forrest.
This day, however, Ash was strangely quiet. He didn't seem unhappy or feeling poorly, instead he seemed lost in thought. Pikachu was sleeping comfortably on top of his backpack and didn't seem to even notice.
Misty was wide awake and did notice Ash's silence. "Is something wrong?" she asked.
"Not really," Ash responded. "I was just thinking, it's been a whole year that I've had Pikachu."
"Really?" Brock said. "A whole year?"
"Well, not quite a whole year," Ash admitted. "But it will be by this Saturday. A year exactly."
"Ohhh, we should do something!" Misty said, clasping her hands together in excitement. "This is special. Maybe we should have a party!"
Ash's eyes lit up. "That's a great idea, Misty! A party for Pikachu!"
Misty nodded. "We can have it at the Pokemon center, we'll be there soon. We can have cake, ice cream, and balloons! And all the Pokemon at the center can come!"
Ash nodded. "Pikachu will love it! What do you think, Brock?"
Brock smiled. "I think it sounds like a great idea, but there's only one thing, I'd worry about."
"What's that?" Misty asked.
Brock said, "you'd better hope Team Rocket doesn't find out about it!"
