John Wimber was very respected among Evangelicals in the 1980s. He always reminded me of Pete Mattacola in the fellowship, who was an Elder at Harvest House. They both had that warm, fatherly, trustworthy appeal about them.

The things we see Wimber saying about not letting people fall, in contrast to those preachers who positively encourage it by pushing....for its shock and "signs and wonders" effect...certainly get my respect. You feel that he is someone who has faith and is not trying to score points.

There is therefore a lot about the video to commend it but I don't think it really demonstrates God's healing at work, as such.

I recall a very persuasive video of Derren Brown (magician/entertainer) converting a room full of sceptics into Christian believers through the power of suggestion. I wouldn't wish to cast aspersions on anything we saw in your video, Jarvis, but it seemed to me that a lot of things Wimber and his colleague said to the sick woman had a lot of parallels with what Derren Brown said to his audience.
