I think you are right that the militant stuff is due to Noel's own suppression of his own sexuality, whether hetero- or homo- sexual. And I agree that unless someone is asexual, celibacy is murder; and share your amazement if someone has indeed remained celibate most of their lives, but unless it has adversely affected someone else, I don't think it can be for us to speculate about Noel's failure to live up to his own standards, if he has.

That said, if he has broken these standards, you can be sure that he will not endure the same censure meted out to the poor people roundly humiliated and disciplined for having normal desires to form relationships, to flirt or even just to talk casually to members of the opposite sex. It would be grossly hypocritical, but it would almost certainly be hushed up.
