There is a lot in what you say, Gill; or at least I understand your point of view.

I laughed a bit after your telling off about hearsay, when you then went on to make some pretty rash judgements about people you haven't met, but I don't hold it against you.

It sounds to me like you are reliant on older members' assurances about how much things have changed, and naturally you feel inclined to be persuaded by the JA's line on things.

I think it would be a waste of time trying to persuade you otherwise. In fact those of us who feel we care about the JA are not trying to persuade YOU, but to be here for people who have real doubts about the church, so that in answer to your question about helping the homeless, yes, John Everett and I have both given homes to people over the years who have left the church with nothing.

You will be told that you always look after people who leave you and will find it hard to accept it when I tell you that this is often not the case.

The self-righteous tone in your posting is nothing I haven't heard before; the old anti-catholic thing is nothing new either. The fact is the JA has actually changed very little, really. Yes, I was round over twenty years ago, but my perceptions are those of someone who was in close contact with a household locally over a number of years, until three years ago when one of them asked for my help in leaving. Shortly afterwards I helped 4 others from the same household. Their own perceptions -experiences of bullying, lying to outsiders, defaming christians from other churches, pressures, heavy shepherding etc have informed mine. Really, as I, it is all too familiar stuff.

And even as you try to deny it, I am quite sure you will know that I am descibing the JA as you know it.
