Hello Tom!

I don't know you either and I haven't kept 'abreast' of all that's gone on on this forum. But, yes, that would have been me at Wembley! Was it really all those years ago? My! I feel old. Steve Stalwart ('Scally' as I called him) used to be a very very close friend of mine. I shall never forget the time we travelled up to an old airfield in Lincoln together to get a second-hand rear idle wheel for an old bulldozer we used to use on the farm. The guy who owned the airfield was called Nelson Green and the runway was full of old bulldozers as far as the eye could see - and yet he know EVERY one of them! What a character!

Steve and I had many great times together...including the time when the apple drink he was making started to ferment and turn into cider: how we laughed!! Sad that he should have warned you against me; I still remember him with great fondness - as I do MANY of my old friends.
I have always tried to speak what I believe to be truth plainly and straightforwardly. I have led a very full and active life and the only reason I don't watch more TV than I do is because I don't get the time. I've resolved on many occasions to let my opposition to the JA fade into the background so that I can do other things - like my Greenpeace work; and watching more TV and going to see Luton play more often; but then something stirs me up again and, as I wipe away the sad tear from my eye, I feel the need to 'keep going'.
I ask my children and wife for their advice, and they tell me that I must do what I think is right. So here I am!!

If you ever speak to Scally, please remind him of the good times we had together: it was HIM who taught me how to strip a tractor engine down and put it back together. Mind you, he was built like an Ox and had a temper to match! Ask him about the time he nearly set the workshop on fire when he threw petrol onto the old oil burner in anger at the fact that it wouldn't light up. Talk about an explosion!!

Take care, Tom. Please don't be too harsh on Peter. He is a wonderful friend whose heart is very definitely in the right place. Isn't that what's most important? In actual fact, all he wants is for someone to argue back at him with the same strength of force. Maybe he doesn't understand that this can be off putting for some. I'll see what I can sort out!

Warmest regards!

John
