Yes, when I left and later bumped into a member, she was surprised that I was attending Harpole Baptist, because she had been told that I was backslidden.

That was always the way. It didn't matter whether you wanted to continue in the Lord or not...it was just assumed that if you left the fellowship, you were rebelling against God. There was no room at all in their thinking for someone to leave, yet remain a christian.

Tom is simply not being honest (or else knows very little about teh early days) if he says that going to another church was acknowledged as perfectly acceptable. The fact is that no other church was radical enough a substitute for Zion.
