I also don't think you should belittle the claims that are made. Once you have left the church I don't think you have much to gain by making things up that aren't true and I think that, if anything, disturbing experiences are more likely to be kept quiet out of embarressment and to avoid the trauma of bringing such experiences out into a public space. If when people attempt to do so in a forum such as this are then responded to with cynicism I think that is very sad. All sorts of things were going on when I was in community that I was completely oblivious of for years, so it is really wrong to suppose that because people who have been in community haven't seen certain things happen, means that these things don't go on.
