Tom, yes, I would be interested to meet up. What household are you associated with?
You know me, I have got a load of grief here for stressing good stuff and for refuting what I consider exaggerations or distortions. I don't think I can be accused of banging on about negatives. But where people do go on about them, perhaps we need to respect that....because lots of people here did not stand back, as you did. They can be given credit for having submitted to a church which required submission. I really don't think you should judge them too harshly. They were true to the values of the church, wrongly or rightly, and as a result they got hurt. And it is only reasonable that they should keep talking about it until it doesn't hurt anymore.
It is said that if you remember the 1960s, you weren't really there (being there was being stoned) and the same sort of applies to you in the JA. You weren't hurt, with respect, because you didn't throw yourself into the JA thing 100%; yes you were there, etc etc...but unless you were submissive, you were morally an outsider....rather as you intend to be when you go back. And that is fine, if you want that, but it doesn't make you truly a part of the experience we are discussing.
