Subject: What is an Avatar?

In response to knonymous'statement of Yogananda not being an Avatar:

I don't know what you meant that Sri Yogananda was not an Avatar. I know of a voice recorded lecture given by Brother Anandamoi where he speaks of this subject and he said that only an Avatar can take the magnitude of karma from thousands upon thousands of disciples.
The Upanishads have minutely classified every stage of spiritual advancement. A siddha -perfected being- has progressed from the state of a jivanmukta "freed while living" to that of a paramukta "supremely free"—full power over death; the latter has completely escaped from the mayic thralldom and its reincarnational round. The paramukta therefore seldom returns to a physical body; if he does, he is an avatar, a divinely appointed medium of supernal blessings on the world.

Avatar or Avatara roughly translated means: "divine incarnation" or God incarnated in human form and refers to a liberated soul whose mission is to be able to accept spiritually thousands of disciples instead of a handful of devotees for countless incarnations until these soul are back to the Godhead.

What is your definition of an Avatar?

There is a spiritual law that says that only a realized soul can recognize another liberated soul or saint. Are you liberated from the limited mind?

"Babaji's spiritual state is beyond human comprehension," Sri Yukteswar explained to me. "The dwarfed vision of men cannot pierce to his transcendental star. One attempts in vain even to picture the avatar's attainment. It is inconceivable."

How can you arrive to such an intellectual conclusion with no experience at all? Did you perhaps plagiarize that concept from the propaganda walrus message board?

"In Autobiography of a Yogi, Yogananda's mother brought him as a babe in arms to Lahiri Mahasaya for his blessing. When Lahiri saw him, he said, "Little mother, thy son will be a yogi. As a spiritual engine, he will bring many souls to God's kingdom."

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying (remain unbrokenly in the Christ Consciousness), he shall never see death."-John 8:51."
