Ketch,

I think you will find these quotes "ridiculous" too:

"The signs of a Guru are as follows: his eyes are still and unwinking whenever he wants them to be so; by the practice of Yoga his breath is quiet without his forcibly holding it in his lungs; his mind is calm without effort. If a man has eyelids that blink continually, and lungs acting like bellows all the time, and a mind always restless like a butterfly, and he keeps on telling you he is in cosmic consciousness, laugh at him. Just as a man cannot pretend that he is sleeping while he contibues to run, so one with restless eyes, breath, and mind cannot convince you, who knows better, that he is in cosmic consciousness. Just as sleep manifests in the body by certain physiological changes, so the muscles, eyes, breath, all usually become still during cosmic consciousness. No Guru can be developed alone by years of study in the intellectual factory of a theological seminary, which deems it has attained its ends when it confers B.D. or D.D. degrees. Such titles can be won by men of good memory, but character, self-control and intuition can be developed only by knowledge of advanced psycho-physical methods of self-realization and deep, daily medidation." -- Paramhansa Yogananda, in "The Second Coming of Christ", Vol. I, page 9, Amrita Foundation.

(Similitar words can be found in the SRF Lesson # 51, if you still have them.)

Other "ridiculous" quotes:

"When by Kriya Yoga the devotees enters samadhi, wherein his eyes, breath, and heart are quieted, another world comes into view. Breath, sound, and movement of the eyes belong to this world. But the yogi who has control of the breath may enter the heavenly astral and causal worlds and commune there with God's saints, or enter cosmic consciousness and commune with God. The yogi is not interested in anything else." -- Paramahansa Yogananda, in Man's Eternal Quest, page 436, SRF.

"He who has attained a state of calmness wherein his eyelids do not blink has achieved Sambhabi Mudra." -- Lahiri Mahasaya, quoted in Autobiography of a Yogi, page 326, SRF. Note by P. Yogananda: "When the yogi has reached a certain stage of mental peace his eyelids do not blink; he is absorbed in the inner world."

"To the awe of all beholders, Lahiri Mahasaya's habitual physiological state exhibited the superhuman features of breathlessness, sleeplessness, cessation of pulse and heartbeat, calm eyes unblinking for hours, and a profound aura of peace." -- Autobiography of a Yogi, page 325.

I know very well that you would not call Yogananda's words above as ridiculous. But I know (and you know too) who is the "guru" cited by the author of the article you criticized. If he was refering to Norman or Kashi, of course you would applaude him. But as he was refering to the guru of some friends of yours who use to post here... everything is very clear.

Any way, I am very curious to see your next comment.
