Dear Norman:

Thank you for your message. Maybe you'll be surprised to know that I am a SRF member, as probably you are and our friend Bill. Although I'm not an advocate for Ananda, I really encourage everyone to read their view. It helps us to get an impartial, balanced view of things.

As a SRF member I personally don't appreciate any unfair campaign anti-SRF (although I can't accept SRF behaviour in so many issues regarding to Ananda, Master's writings, his history, photos etc); and I don't like also the campaign anti-Ananda and anti-Kriyananda promoted mostly by that “nodjw” character, and a few others.

I always think of the chapter in the Autobiography of a Yogi, called "Two Penniless Boys in Brindiban", where Paramahansa Yogananda gives the Kriya initiation to a man, and tells him, "From now on the technique will be your guru." He gave Kriya freely to literally thousands as he lectured across the USA. Many of them never felt the need to enroll in SRF; and today there are thousands of people who have the Kriya technique and never set foot on Mt. Washington. I believe all these thousands are the REAL Fellowship. (Listen Master’s new tape, just released by SRF, and see Dr. Lewis’ definition of “Self-Realization Fellowship”: according to him, the real SRF is NOT the organization, but the real communion of all truth-seekers through the Chist-consciousness they experience within.) The monastics who work on Mt. Washington, I believe, are supposed to SERVE all these people, the Kriyavans everywhere of all lineages, not to control them, not to sue them when they promote Master’s teachings and ideals outside the organization.

I can't say that I agree with everything that Kriyananda says and had done, but it does seem that he has done a lot of good things and of course the people at Ananda are wonderful, and they are serving Master's ideals in a marvelous special way. Kriyananda also certainly has a lot of insight he can share due to years of practice and his personal training under Master. I personally was benefited by many of his writings and tapes.

On the otherhand I do strongly believe that Master intended SRF to have a special role in spread of his teachings. SRF has Master’s blessings to support it in its noble endeavors. Many SRF members, however, take those blessings for granted, oblivious that Master’s himself also gave to SRF a curse, as it is expressed in his own words in the book “Journey to Self-Realization”, published by SRF(!):

“God drown Self-Realization if ever it becomes an organization that is only eager to fill halls and draw crouds of people without having, foremost, the desire to give them Self-realization.” (page 129)

For many centuries the Catholic church claimed it was the only church, founded by Christ himself, and the only instrument and channel of his grace. Now we can see Jesus' blessings pouring on several churchs and denominations, including our dear SRF, which – according to Master – has Jesus as one of the Gurus. If Jesus (as many of us believe) is still active in this world, even “founding” other churches, including SRF, couldn’t Master also be active in the "other side" and fouding and blessing other paths, including Ananda? As an "ever-living Guru", his mission did not end on March 7, 1952. He is in manifestation drawing people to God through his teachings and the disciples who personally trained.

Master’s true spirit is expressed in these words (from an article of his in an early East-West magazine): “Why don’t the Bishop of Canterbury and the Pope of Rome exchange pulpits – are they not followers of the same Christ?... Churches and temples and all religious organizations must give more. They must be united in their efforts to find their goal instead of being torn by mutual jealousies and party feelings.”

This is the Yogananda I believe in.

Of course, we probably will not see in this life both Daya Ma and Swami Kriyananda exchanging pulpits as disciples of the same Master, but I deeply hope that one day the leaders of both SRF and Ananda can met together in a higher level of divine love and understanding, and mutual appreciation.

But it is not our part to focus on these things too much, nor judging or blame Daya Ma or Kriyananda. This is all petty gossip. Daya Mata, Kriyananda, Roy E. Davis, Sri Nerode, Norman Paulsen – those are all good people, no doubt, since they are all devotees of God at varying stages of spiritual maturity and realization; and they are our seniors in this path, and as such deserving our respect whatever maybe their personal flaws, if any. But it is Master who drew us to this path. We were called to Master though SRF, others though Ananda. Let us love God and Guru above all. Let us to remain loyal to the inner path Master chose for us, and try to keep our hearts focused on his guidance within. Let us pray for peace and harmony between us. And as we strive to our common goal, let us forget the absurd fictions of this world, for they are meaningless.

It is time all these things be corrected.

God bless you all.
