I can place my tongue in the nasal cavity quite easily - no strain whatsoever. I can touch the tip of the tongue from the back of the throat to the front where the holes open to the nostrils - and all points between. I have never received instruction in this practice however and don't know how it is incorporated into higher Kriya practice. Whatever the supposed benefits of this mudra, the claims of some here that it is physically impossible are clearly wrong. I agree however that trying to penetrate the bone beneath the pituitary seems both improbable and unwise - it is my opinion that Khechari as taught by Lahiri Mahasaya did not involve such a practice.

Anyways, it seems people get way too emotional and caught up everytime this topic arises. I can see much more clearly why Paramhansa Yogananda adapted Kriya so as not to require Khechari - if Khechari causes this much misunderstanding among practitioners of Yoga today, just think what it would have been like to make this technqiue know to the general public 80 years ago. Yogananda certainly knew what he was doing both in regards to adapting Kriya and also making Yoga accessible to the Western mind.
