Swami Muktananda (from whom I received this spiritual name) used to initially recommend so-ham; he has a great little booklet called "I am That" wherein he quotes scripture that supports both so-ham and hamsa methods. I recall reading an article by Walters wherein he related consulting several Indian authorities who verified overwhelming scriptural support for hamsa.
