"The Vishnu Sahasranama is found in the great epic MahaBharata authored by Sri Veda vyasa. 'Sahasra nama' means thousand names, so this is a chant of thousand names of Lord Vishnu. Through all this names we get 1000 indirect and indicative definitions of the unknown supreme lord in terms of the known. There are exactly 1031 names of Lord Vishnu in the 'Sahasranama' and we find some repetitions also. Since this is a chant of glory repetitions are generally accepted."
