Subject: Running the path to enlightenment

Anyone finding the path of Kriya Yoga too difficult may like to consider taking up a ritual of the Tendai sect in Japan. It consists of severe austerities including running 24,800 miles during the seven year ritual.

Since 1885 only 47 people have been able to complete the ritual. The degree of enlightenement experienced by the successful participants is unknown.

As an added incentive, anyone who fails to complete the ritual must take their own life by hanging or disembowelment.
