Here's an even earlier, and more detailed description of Babaji by Yoganandaji. I hope this is early enough for you.

1929. Whispers from Eternity. From the glossary in the back. There's a listing for the following.

"BABAJI*: the Master of my Master's Master: is living an unusually long life and staying secretly in the Himalayas. His powers are Christ-like and miraculous.

*The Swami will soon publish a biography of Babaji, Lahiri Mahasaya and other saints."
