Subject: The Inner Religion: "Seeing Ye See Not"

Religion has become an automatic engine. It has to do with motion. But the more you have to do with motion, remember you are getting away from God. Now church has done lots of good, but not enough. In India there is very little motion in the churches. We sing a little bit, but very little motion. In the church, from the beginning the minister thinks how to keep the people busy. For a few minutes I sat yesterday, and suddenly I see an hour and a half has slipped by in God. Why not? You go to the movies and you don’t think of time.

So, go up and down the spine during meditation. Meditation seems mere drudgery in the beginning, but you should not think of the darkness. You should remember what Christ said, “The light shineth behind the darkness...” Right behind that darkness of closed eyes are the ultraviolet rays and X-rays and angels moving about. That is why Jesus said, “Seeing, ye see not.” He meant what he said. I give you an illustration. Now you know there are television programs going on all the time in the ether right now. And why don’t you see them?–They are there right before your eyes now–Because you are not tuned in. God gives man a protection. He divided the light that we might see the things of the earth and be undisturbed by what is passing on in the ether. Originally, ear had all the power to hear but it lost that as it became more engrossed in the material world. That is what Patanjali says. But as you develop, those senses become more developed too.
