I always assumed it was a physical star. If one wants to elaborate on the metaphor given by Yuketsvar that namely the physical universe hangs like a basket “under” the balloon of the astral universe, the idea of physical stars rotating around astral stars is hardly possible.

But then Yukteswar used terms understandable in his times and today’s cosmology is constantly changing and expanding. After I first read the “Holy Science” I checked out Asimov’s “History of Science”. It is indeed strange that up to about 1600 all inventions and discoveries occupied two or three pages at most. Thereafter Asimov had to devote several pages for each decade and later even a multitude of pages for each year or fraction thereof.

To Vijay:
The Bible, particularly the “Old Testament” i. e the Jewish Bible is under severe attack. Check out all the sites about Ugarit, for instance with Google, or start at

The “New Testament” has been called a highly doctored document, particularly by Jewish writers but to a certain extent even by Yogananda (they crucified Jesus only once but have crucified his teachings often, paraphrased).
