Subject: Court ruling SRF did not own the copyrights in certain books by Yogananda.

6. Court ruling that SRF did not own the copyrights in certain books by Yogananda published before his passing. Based on this decision, Ananda later published the first edition of Yogananda's Autobiography of a Yogi.

Because SRF began filing lawsuit after lawsuit against Ananda, Ananda began researching the copyrights of Yogananda's works. This was done entirely out of self-defense. Part of this self-defense was to make sure that the disposition of these copyrights became part of the court record.

Because of this, the vast majority of Yogananda's early, original works were proven to be in the public domain. Books such as the first edition of Autobiography of a Yogi. Early editions of Cosmic Chants, Scientific Healing Affirmation, Metaphysical Meditations, Science of Religion, Attributes of Success, Whispers from Eternity, Songs of the Soul. Along with many, but not all, of the old magazine articles.

SRF's recent 'victory' over the sound recordings and the Second Coming of Christ and Gita interpretation is a victory only when contrasted with all of their other defeats. And, taken in the broader context of everything else the court decided, Ananda winning 85% of this case is probably a conservative estimate.

But Ananda didn't really 'win' anything except the right to be disciples of Yogananda, and to share his teachings. Everyone else also has that right now.

And SRF didn't 'lose' anything. They are not stopped from publishing the books of Yogananda, and spreading his teachings. The only thing they 'lost' was the right to repeatedly sue Ananda for something that was entirely legal for Ananda to do.
