Subject: SRF v. "Babaji's Kriya Yoga"

A comparison of SRF and "Babaji's Kriya Yoga" can be found here: http://www.babaji.ca/english/compare.html

This article, written from the Babaji Kriya Yoga perspective, makes the argument that the "ah-ee" sounds used in SRF Kriya are modifications of the 'original' "Va-shi" sounds. Vashi is a Tamil word for breath, and of course when reversed the syllables make the word Siva. The article claims the sounds were changed so as to not offend Westerners, who would be averse to chanting Siva's name while doing their pranayama.

Interestingly, there are references to the performance of pranayama with Si and Va sounds in siddhar writings available on the Net, e.g. Bhogar and Tirumular, indicating that Si is associated with exhalation and Va is associated with inhalation. Here is a reference from Tirumular that sounds very much like Kriya Yoga:

"1777 Rouse Kundalini and reach Supreme State
Rouse with the flaming Kundalini
And upward your Prana course;
Halting within the body
The acts of inhalation and exhalation
This, if you, through practice accomplish
You indeed have reached
The Supreme State Divine."
