You are asking a question of a lifelong scientist. So please bear with me. Think of me as a scientist who just happened to have practiced Yoga since the age of two with lessons from from two extraordinary teachers, Yogananda and Sri Nerode.

I am not in any sense a devotee of anybody nor a member of any religious or Yoga organization.

Let me just say that I loved Yogananda as an uncle and thought, and do think, that he was a great leader and teacher, but that like any human being he had faults.

I would never make any judgement whether or not any personality, be it the recent Yogananda, Ramakrishna, Aurobindo or the earlier Sankara, is fully realized. Why?

It is my view, I believe consistent with that of Lahiri and many vedantists, that personality is just another form of illusion that one has to transcend (rather than worship or judge) to attain unity of self and the universal consciousness.

Many of those who entered through traditional religions cannot accept this view and concentrate on images, of which personality is one.
