Ketch,

"I do not know what was protected other than a handful of peoples idea of territorial rights."

Apparently the jury did not see it that way.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It was nothing more than a fight for dominance in the Yoganandas Kriya world, and not worthy of the reported millions of dollars used and the misery it has caused for many people, in my opinion.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
"This seems to me the drawn out conclusion of why Lahiri Mahashay did not allow organizations to form around him. I'm sure SRF was formed for the best reasons, but seems to have turned out to be the mistake that Lahiri Mahashay warned about."

What does this mean? Are you saying that Lahiri Mahasaya objected to organisations on the grounds that they might sue to protect their commercial rights?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

What it means is that Lahiri Mahashay was aware of the dangers of oganizations, and that they have no place in Yoga practice. Even in AOY, Yogananda states that Lahiri Mahashay was against organizations, yet Yogananda built one anyway. I see these actions by SRF as an outcome of the reasons why organizations should be discouraged. Books are published for money mainly, and protected with copyrights, the resulting centers are created to carry out doctrine found in the books. Surely this is the birth of another religion with a long dead savior, requiring a signature of faith and blind belief as to the Godliness of a person never met. In time the yogic practice will become even less important than it is now, and total submission to the belief of what Yogananda was/is will be the only requirement for the salvation to be found after death. This is my honest opinion.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
"What we have now is an organization that promotes its Guru as God, the chosen one, and will sue anyone that gets in its way."

Since SRF has only been involved in one lawsuit (and one involving YSS over some Indian property) it is hardly reasonable to describe it as an organisation which "will sue anyone that gets in its way."
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Well, seeing that Ananda is the only one that has placed themselves in the way of SRF it may not be that unreasonable. There have been some nasty dealings with some others that have not shared SRFs view of how life was during, or should be after Yoganandas death. It is natural for an organization to protect its image, and sense of right and wrong. Organizations do not practice Yamas/Niyamas, only some human beings, and when things are done for the greater good of the movement then the practice even ends for the humans involved.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
As for Yogananda being the "chosen one," if by that you mean the one who was chosen by Babaji to bring Kriya to the west and establish a worldwide movement, then yes, that is SRF's belief. It was from the beginning, and is recorded as such in "Autobiography of a Yogi."
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The Yogis, Yogananda back to Lahiri Mahashay were not Avatars or Gods in Human form, but men that found something vital in their understanding of life lived in freedom from egocentric activities. The doctrine of Yogananda being the last of his line, and a savior of mankind is a belief encouraged by SRF. This of course means that according to Babaji, I have been told, that only SRF is able to finish out the mission as caretakers in sharing Kriya Yoga with the western world.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
In what way has SRF failed as a result of winning this case?
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

SRF has failed by becoming an enforcing
entity protecting what has become "a product" and source of income for them while performing their "divine duty" to mankind. It is the creed of all religions. Instigating the lawsuits are the sure symptoms of this, winning just an unfortunate result.

All said, I still consider Yogananda a great man and Yogi, still human of course and subject to mistakes human beings make.

Mike
