I took David’s class Sports in Society a few years back, and I would like to state that his teaching methods may seem unorthodox, and compared to different disciplines you will take at any university or college level they are.

I am currently taking Sociology as my major at Southern Oregon University, and the teaching method for Sociology is quite close to the way David teaches class. We have discussions about the topic at hand... and yes even here at the university level we get off subject and go onto some “hot button” topics that are somewhat irrelevant to the class topic.

The purpose of higher learning is to open up to new ideas and to make up your own mind. It is not to regurgitate the information and then forget about it next term.

I am happy to have teachers that show enthusiasm for their jobs, who keep you on your toes, and don’t just repeat what is written in the text book. If what you are looking for is a class that is straight forward with clear right and wrongs and does not make you form an opinion then sociology is really not a class you should take.
