Kent,

All fairway woods are the same length for a given golfer. However, the Titanium Driver is longer than the fairway woods due to the fact that it is used to hit a ball that is teed up. The color of the fairway woods is glossy black while the color of the Titanium Driver is glossy blue in the center of the topshell fading into glossy black.

This brings up another question. Is the 1-Iron titanium driver meant to be used from a center stance position like all the other 1-Iron clubs are used?
Or should it be forward in the stance like a standard driver.

Jprice,

Our Titanium Driver is designed to make impact with the ball just past the lowest portion of the golf swing. Since the lowest portion of the swing arc is directly in front of your belly button we suggest starting with a slightly forward ball position and then adjusting this to your individual preference. In no case would you want to use the exagerated forward ball positions that you see players using with typical drivers.

Good call about forward ball positioning.

But why does a driver need to be longer because it is teed up?

If a ball is hit off of the turf the ground contact through impact helps to square the clubface (this is true for both irons and woods). When a ball is teed up 1" or 2" off the ground this does not occur and the clubhead is left open in the majority of cases (this is one of the reasons for the preponderence of sliced drives). The purpose of a longer club length for the driver is to create a flatter swing plane which dynamically produces an effective closing of the clubface through impact.
