Subject: The Search for the Perfect Club....

Dave,

I just finished reading Tom Wishon's two books (Perfect Club, and Perfect Driver)

The entire time I was thinking to myself.... These guidlines are being supported directly by David Lake.

The average golfer doesn't need "the colorful 9 degree light saber." Also, by using the perfect length of a 7 iron, one usually doesn't violate the 24/38 rule (your 3 iron does, but it is the best three iron I've ever used)
Your lofts are spaced perfectly apart.

The one point that Wishon and 1irongolf differ is his percieved importance of using a graphite shaft to reduce club weight, which causes an increase in swing speed.

I assume 1irongolf uses a "very lightweight" steel shaft in all it's clubs?

Keep up the good work!!!

Jesse,

Thank you. To make a slight correction, my book was published years prior to Tom Wishon's, so in actuality the guidlines set forth in my book are being supported by his books.

Without question, Tom Wishon is an authority in golf club design and we are in agreement the majority of the time. That being said, my testing has shown conclusively that while a lighter golf club may produce a slight increase in swing speed, it also produces a significant decrease in control and resultant center-face contact. Also, the inherent inconsistency of graphite shafts from shot to shot result in a decided lack of control when compared to a steel shaft. Again, lack of control results in a lack of center-face contact. Since center-face contact is the primary determinant of both distance and accuracy, the performance level of a graphite shafted golf club cannot match the performance level of a steel shafted one. Hence our reasoning for not offering graphite shafts in our golf clubs.

Our steel shafts are standard weight.

I stand corrected!

David Lake is out front carrying the torch for better ACCURACY, CONSISTENCY, & LOW SCORING
