Subject: Women 1 Irons

Ok, I'm trying to convince my wife I need new clubs. So I'm suggesting to her it's time for her to get new clubs. She's receptive to the 1 Irons but she has brought up the fact that 1 Irons are not configured differently for women. I think she has a valid point. Women clubs typically have a lighter swing weight, I guess, in recognition of the fact that for a given person's weight, a man will have more strength than a woman. I would think that strength, while not the only factor, is indeed an important factor in accelerating the club to a maximum club head speed which directly affects launch speed and distance. So why doesn't 1 Iron develop a woman's model. My wife currently uses Ping Eye 2 irons (woman's model) with steel shafts. She's concerned the 1 Irons are going to be too heavy.

Bill,

Other than using a pink paintfill in the cavity of the clubhead there is no reason to alter golf club specifications based upon strength, age, or gender. Taking a men's #8 iron and renumbering it as a #7 iron for a woman (which is what every golf club manufacturer does) simply does not make any sense. Here is some specific information on the subject: http://www.1irongolf.com/index_files/page0017.htm
