Subject: single swing setup?

I've been trying to convince myself for a while to get a set of 1-irons, but there's still one thing with the concept that doesn't sit right with me.

How can you realistically have just one setup and swing in the game of golf?
When I play I'm hitting from uphill lies, downhill lies, sidehill lies, out of a bunker, from the woods with one foot on a tree root, etc.
I mean, if every shot was from the tee box or a flat section of fairway, then I can see the single setup thing working, but golf just isn't like that. You will have many different setups based on the lie of the ball.
Or am I looking too much into this and the 1-iron concept is only meant to help from "clean" lies?

Jeff,

Using standard length irons you have 10+ swings, set-ups, ball positions, etc. depending upon which iron you are hitting and assuming a normal lie in the middle of the fairway. Add to this all of the differnt uphill, downhill, etc. lies you might have during a round of golf and you can easily increase the number of different swings, etc. to 40 or 50.

Using a single-length set of irons you only have one swing, set-up, and ball position regardless of which iron you are hitting, from the middle of the fairway. Certainly you will use a different set-up, etc. for those awkward lies you mention, but these shots will be much more manageble considering that all of your irons are identical and simply require the same set-up, swing, and so forth from the particular lie no matter which iron you use.
