Gary,

Though I am not as long off the tee as Steve C (but accurate thanks to my 1-Iron driver), I have a 10 yard gap between my 1-Irons, specifically:

3i - I use a 1-Iron 5w instead, which I hit roughly 200y
4i - 180y
5i - 170y
6i - 160y
7i - 150y
8i - 140y
9i - 130y
PW - 120y
GW - 110y
SW - 100y
LW - 90y

I commend your decision to give uniform (single-length and single-weight) irons a try, and wish you the best of success.

Gary: The distances you get from your 1-Irons is dependent on your personal swing speed and the ball you are using. I have students that have slow swing speeds and use low-compression balls; their driver maxes out at about 180 yards. Some of my students have higher swing speeds and use higher-compression balls; their driver is out there about 250-270 yards. Again, it all depends on your personal swing speed and ball type. The yardage gap between clubs averages 10 yards, and that will also vary according to your swing speed. I've found over the years that most golfers over-estimate how far they are hitting their clubs because they just don't know their clubhead speed or which ball they should be using. Hope this helps a little. R2
