Subject: 3 iron training

In a reponse to someone's earlier post in this forum, David Lake made comment that he just takes his 3 iron to the range - on the basis that if he can hit his 3 iron, then he can hit all of them. (sorry if I didn't get that exactly right, David). Anyway, the last two trips to the driving range I did just that. I focused on grooving my swing with the 3 iron. I noticed even more consistancy with the 3 iron and an increase in distance. It's a great feeling having confidence in the ability to take a 3 iron out of the bag and hit it well without a second thought! I actually look forward to hitting the 3 iron.

Well today I warmed up with my 3 iron and then hit most of the other irons in my bag. The improvement in consistency and distance for those irons also has improved as if I had practiced with all of them.

I've also noticed an improvement hitting my Driver... Taylormade R7 460. I'm not sure why, but maybe it's because my muscles only have a couple of swings to think about. I'm ready to take my new-found confidence to course.

Quick question: Now hitting my wedges feels a little akward due to them being a different length. I would like feedback from those of you who switched to 1 iron wedges, as I'm thinking about making the switch as well.

Thanks,

Marcel

Marcel:

I switched to 1Iron wedges when I got all my irons. I've had no trouble at all with the wedges. Mine are only an inch and a half longer than my conventional wedges. If you feel you need it shorter, you can always choke down some, but for full shots they are excellent. I had no trouble at all and I choke down for shorter shots and chips. I hear other guys say they grip normally for all shots and have equal success. Also, I find the 3 and 6 degree bounces a confidence builder on tight lies. My 2 cents.

Thanks Jim. So it sounds like you have the same control and accuracy that you had with your original wedges. Are they also the same weight and lie as the irons?

Yeah Marcel. The wedges are exactly the same as the rest of the 1Irons. The only exception is the sand wedge which has a 6 degree loft instead of the 3 degrees on all other irons. The beauty of that is you still have confidence off tight lies even with the sand wedge. You can view all the iron specs on the irons tab on the homepage of 1Iron.
