after a few more range trips i played a 9 hole round today. again only took my irons and a putter to the course and left my woods/driver at home. i played a fantastic round but my friends and i noticed that i hit the 3,4 and 5 irons nearly the same distance.. i dunno why this can happen since im not using a different swing at all. same ball position, setup ... i hit all three irons around 150-160 meters (thats approximately 165-175 yards).

and here comes my question to this:
which iron "would" be supposed to be hit this distance and what am i doin wrong with the others!? i guess its a 5 iron distance, cause i hit my 6 iron around 140 meters ( ~150 yards).. why are my 3 and 4 irons too short then? i am not taking a big divot or digging into the ground first nor do i skull the balls they are flying pretty well it seams but all reach nearly same distance ..

maybe someone could give me an advice? im playing the last tournament this season in 2 days and it would help my game if i could get some more yards with my 3 and 4 iron.

thx all, waiting for answers!

Alex,

As per the Playability Tips that you received, this is to be expected initially. You have not yet developed your feel and timing for single-length golf clubs as well as being able to ingrain your single swing. It is not possible to accomplish this in such a short period of time. You will find that after a few more trips to the range, and given the time necessary to fully acclimate yourself to your new irons, the distance gaps between your irons will become uniform (approx. 10 yards). You will also lose the unconscious timidity that you certainly have when hitting a #3 or #4 iron and be able to "go after" shots with these irons as you would when hitting a higher lofted iron.

thx David, i guess you are right.. maybe its just because im a little impatient...
what "should" be a average distance for a 3 or 4 iron ?

Alex,

Club distance and the associated distance gaps between clubs is solely dependent upon your swing-speed/power. Generally speaking, if you hit your #7 iron 150 yards carry, then you should be able to hit your #3 iron approximately 190 yards carry.
