Tony: I have been using 1-Irons for a couple of years now, and have actually increased my distance simply by "finishing the swing". As I teach new golfers, this is one of their major problems. They slow their swing down right after impact, and can't figure out why they are losing distance. Fact is, to obtain maximum distance, you must be accelerating THRU the swing, until you reach the end of your swing (over your forward shoulder). If you immediately slow your swing down after hitting the ball, that means you had to start slowing down BEFORE your club head ever reached the ball! Next time you're at the range, try to focus on accelerating thru the ball, and don't stop your swing at some pre-determined height - just make a nice, controlled and COMPLETE swing. It really works and will give you the added distance you're looking for. Have a great day and hit 'em straight! R2

The information you have provided is very helpful. The best part of my game is my iron play because I can consistently hit the "1irons". I find the yardage gap between clubs is spot on. My concern relating to distance. Should I be playing a 3 and 4 iron as well, rather my current inconsistent fairway woods. I am left handed, so the 1iron fairway woods are not available for me. Your thoughts? I have told all my golf buddies about the 1irons and while they "laugh" at the concept they do recognize my consistent iron play.

Tony,

You should definitely be playing the #3 and #4 irons. They are as easy to hit as all the other irons in your set with the same consistency.
