Subject: Sand Wedge ?

I'm wondering how many 1 iron users have also bought the sand, gap, or lob wedges as well? I've made up my mind and am planning to buy the irons 3 thru PW, but I'm not sure whether or not to get the wedges as well. I currently use a 52*, 56*, and 60* wedge and am very pleased with how I hit them and am afraid to mess with a good thing, but if I'm truly going to go with the 1 swing thing I need all my irons the same I'm assuming. Have you all switched to 1 Iron wedges or have some of you stayed with the name brand more traditional wedges? Also how have you found the 1 iron sand wedge out of the bunkers? Does it have enough bounce for use in bunkers? Thanks in advance for any who offer feedback.

Hi,
I did purchase David's GW and SW seperately from my 1 irons. I simply could not get used to the length and look of the wedges. I ended up selling them and went back to my own wedges. Sounds like you are doing well with your wedges so why change. You can still reap the benefits of David's system by using his irons while keeping your wedges. I know some people will say change but, really it is up to you. I say, if it aint broke, don't fix it. He! He! FYI I use my own driver, hybrids, wedges, and David's irons. 4-PW. Still learning his system but do feel confident that my game will steadily improve. Hope this helps a little.

Mike:

I would have to agree with Eddie. If you are comfortable with your wedges, I wouldn't necessarily want to mess with that. David may have a better take. As for me, I was already using the Lovett for bunkers, and that was the only wedge I had besides Pitching. I went ahead and got all of David's, especially since the Sand wedge only has 6 degees of bounce. That way I can develop a good coverage for all distances. I'm just working on that part of my game. Good luck. Perhaps David will chime in.

Mike, I have bought 2 sets of irons from david, a couple yrs. ago, I had sw and pw then up to 3 iron, I now have added a gw, and lw, I have taken my 3 iron out of the bag, I also have his 5 wood and 3 wood. the 5 wood I can use where I would of used the 3 iron, so I am not giving up much. I just got used to the clubs all being the same length and swingweight, for me its in my head that I am using the best clubs ever built, so I dont want to use anything else. I shot a 37 in the club championship using davids 40.5" driver. I was hitting that club about 250 yards, or a little more, and my worst drive was 3 feet in the rough on 1 hole. But where I really cut my strokes was with my wedges, anything under 100 yards, I feel like Ihave all the clubs I need to score well with. My handicap hovers around 14 for 18 holes too. My last 2 rounds of the year were back to back 39's just before snow started flying in northern michigan. It took me a lot of work, and getting used to his equipment, but once its dialed in, I dont think theres a better set of clubs anywhere,,,,,,good luck,,,ed

I bought the entire line of IRONS that David Lake sells, because you either buy the concept, or you will doubt yourself. But, I am not sure that is worth the $85 per club he sells them for.

Also, it will look really wierd if you look in your bag a see the shorter wedges in there. Not s real issue.

I also think the SW will feel really wierd after using a 7iron lenght PW.

Just spent the day at the DAVE PELZ short game school. Here is what I found out. It was very hard to use the longer shafted wedges to execute the finesse shot that they teach, but I used some regular length PELZ wedges and I was able to hit the shots with no problem.

Two things I have to do either modify the 1IRON wedges, or get another set.....

Could it also be that Pelz sells his own line of wedges and his classes and instructions are tailored around them?

There was no pressure to buy, also, his wedges cost $140 each!

But, the execution of a 20 yd flop was almost impossible with a 37.5" LW. Best I could do was 35 yds. I grabbed their wedge 34.5" and hit it 22 yds...... So I don't believe it was a "SYSTEM" issue.

I will need to address this problem with my golf club set make-up.

Unfortunatly most of us golfers feel we need to control everything about our game. Always needing to change grips, adjust our clubs, make them shorter make them longer. The biggest key to golf other than don't let it make you mental is to work with what you have. Golfers of days gone by used clubs far inferior to what we have with as good if not better results. If you watch the old Bobby Jones shows, they have the same complaints we all have today about our game, our equipment etc. While I don't have Davids wedges I have made my wedges (Snake Eyes 600wb forged) the same length as my 1irons and have no trubs with shorter flops at a practice facility. I just don't try that shot much on a course as there is a good chance I'd skull the ball through another players skull acroos the green. Like your driver Jesse work with these a while. You may also find if you really like them, Pelzs wedges on Ebay for a much better price. Good Luck.

good advice pat, I dont have much trouble hitting flop shots with my 36.5 inch lob wedge, it has to be sitting just right before I will try a flop shot with any length club. Jesse, I dont know what your handicap is, but I would definitely practice more with your 1 iron lob wedge before giving up. I can choke down on the shaft if I have to, but I generally just stand more upright with a longer club. good luck either way,,,,,,ed

Yeah guys:

I don't understand how need for shorter club length could be a problem. Why not just choke down for touch shots? I chip great from the metal and choke down on 7 and 8 irons for low running pitches. Keep in mind, however, my wedge game is far from great. Just wondering.

When I went to the 1-Irons I got all the wedges in addition to all the irons. Now that I've become fully comfortable with the single length irons and have dropped a lot of strokes off my scores I can't even imagine playing with wedges that were shorter than the rest of my irons. I can make any shot around the green much better with the 1-Iron wedges than I ever could with my old set. Per David's book I don't choke down on any club for any shot and my percentage of ups and ins has gone up dramatically.

My short game and sand play has improved 100% with the 1 Iron Golf wedges. From a consistency standpoint it does'nt make sense to have irons that are different lengths, not to mention different weights and so on. If your wedges are different from the rest of your irons then whenever you have to make a full shot with them you have to use a different swing and ball position than you do with the rest of the irons. I go with 1 Iron's philosophy of keeping everything the same no matter if you're hitting a full shot, a short pitch shot, or a chip.
