Mark,

It is true that lower lofted clubs require higher swing speeds in order to be played effectively. This is particularly true in the irons (#3 and #4). What bothers me, since all of our golf clubs are specifically designed for a high trajectory, is that you said you could only get the #3 wood and Driver twelve feet off the ground. There can be only one reason for this and it is not your swingspeed: it is because you are making contact with the ball below the center of the clubface. When you swing a fairway wood you should be leaving a scar on the turf where the ball was sitting. If not then you are consciously trying to lift the ball at impact which always results in low clubface impact. The clubhead coming through impact should always be on a slightly descending or level plane, never ascending. This is true for the driver as well as the fairway woods. We suggest a low tee height when using our Steel Driver. The reason is that you are using a center of stance ball position which should correspond to the lowest point in the swing. If you try to lift the ball which is a common practice when using a forward ball position and high tee height, you will most definitely make low clubface contact with the ball.

Try practicing your driver and #3 wood swings without a ball. What you want to do is scrape the ground in the center of your stance during your swing. When you get the feeling of this try hitting a few balls but do not look directly at the ball during your swing. You want to look at the ground just behind the ball and try to begin the turf scraping at that point. I believe that you will begin to see a world of difference in your trajectory.

By the way, you should not be having a problem with your #3 and #4 irons at your swing speed. Again, I believe that you may be trying to lift the ball as opposed to hitting it with a slightly descending blow.

If you want to increase your swing speed try moving your elbows as close together as possible at address. The feeling is one of trying to squeeze your chest with your upper arms, and doing so will cause the inside portion of your elbows to be facing upward. It will feel very strange and uncoordinated at first but I guarantee that your swing speed will increase dramatically. The reason? By doing this you are effectively eliminating the arms from the golf swing and allowing the body to take over. The arms just go along for the ride and snap through impact like a bull whip.

>Once again, thank you David for your reply. The speed and thought that goes into your answers on this forum continually amaze me. I will work on these things at the range. Please note I am very happy with the clubs.
Mark
