Mark:

I've tried varied ball positions with the 1 Iron driver and fairway woods and have settled on a left heel ball position with the driver and slightly left of center with the fairway woods. My ball flight is high and sweet.

Man I've tried all sorts, I just don't seem to be able to get it. It is costing me about 4-5 strokes a round at the moment, but I am determined to get it. Will keep trying.

Oh, oh, sounds like you're now playing a guessing game while trying to actually play a round. That will never ever work Mark. Believe me you'll die trying. You need to dial it in on the range. Work out the technical side of the swing there without any consideration to where the ball is going. It takes 21 straight days to ingrain a new habit, and that's not me but Ben Hogan, Roger Maltbie (Range Rats author)Tiger, etc. If the driver is giving you woes right now use your 3w until it gets going. STAY POSITIVE, these clubs work. I overanylized, overswung, and drove myself over the edge. Now my swing is like I don't think that ball will go 100 yards but crisp clean hits with all irons and fw woods, I've just started working on the driver but I am pleased with it. I can do without it as the 3w is about 230-250 yards and my wife likes my driver, woe is me. I have taken my 7w out of the bag as my 3 and 4 irons are things of beauty now, all due to working with the short(8i and up) and switching right to the 3 or 4 or 5i and making the exact same swing. The big thing is get it out of our heads which club it is. Just swing them the same. I use the Ben Hogan's 5 lessons, the best book ever written, arguabley, having come over from natural golf. I've spent the winter just holding the club, practicing half swings in the house. I hold them elbows in close to the body and sunny side up right through the swing, feels weird but zingers are the result and accurrate as heck. But remember this above all the course is not the place to learn a new swing or guess on ball positions. Best of Luck. Pat Morris

Thanks Patrick, I am generally not trying to do this on the course, its just that I had to play a couple of rounds inbetween. I am mostly working on my own at the range. The irons are superb, I am hitting them all so well. We have 2 par 3's at our course which are 199 and 207 yds and my 3 iron got me onto both greens both days, so obviously thrilled with the irons. It's just the woods I am struggling with. I will do like you suggest and just work with the 3w first and leave my driver at home. I won't be playng another round for 3 weeks so hopefully get some sort of consistency by then otherwise I will be just teeing off with my 3 iron.
Cheers
