Thank you Carlos, but no, I do not have a formula for loft, though my intuition would be as loft increase there is added reduction in distance because not only is the angel at which the ball leaves the club higher, but the ball would tend to roll up the face of the club more therby decreasing the power transfer.

A few things that are often missed in these comparisons:

(1) The 1-Iron clubs have 4 degree increments throughout the set. My 3 Iron has 19 degrees loft, a conventional/standard 3 iron is more like 21 degrees. Most modern sets (if they have 3/4/5 irons) have 3 degree gaps between the longer irons

(2) The 1-Iron club heads are all the same weight. Again my 3 Iron head weighs 270gms, a conventional/standard 3 iron weighs closer to 240gms.

(3) You will hit the ball in the centre of the club more often with a shorter shaft than a longer shaft. No-one can argue that one. You lose consistency with every mm off-centre. Its a balance between control and power as to how short the shaft is, obviously having a set that is as 33 inches would require a fair swing speed to get the required distance out of your 3 iron, even if you hit it in the centre more often. I think David has a really good balance ... usually works out to be near you 7-8 iron length.

Factor those into your calculations.

Club makers spend a lot of time trying to manipulate the head weight - shaft length - head lie / lofts of a set to get them to have a constant MOI, a consistent shaft flex, consistent distance gaps, a consistent feel. Having your clubs all one length addresses all of those problems in one hit.

Real world results show that this is not mumbo-jumbo. I am a single figure player and can tell you I have gained consistency and accuracy with all my irons (especially 3/4/5 irons) since I got my 1-Irons from David.

I also understand where you are coming from in terms of wanting some data to help you argue your point. But just understand 2 things ...
(1) you aint going to win that argument ... its like arguing about whether god exists or not ... or if Macs are better than Windows PCs ... or anything that has an emotional price on losing the debate. People dont want to be shown that they have been believing something that might not be true.
AND (2) David is right in saying that producing the figures from something like Iron Byron is irrelevant. Statistics are used by the big guys each year to show you why the stuff they released last year is now obsolete - but you know that's crap. You know that new golf gear is not improving peoples scores, everyone knows it. So lies and damn statistics arent going to prove anything.

Just try em out, and do what suits you.

My 1-Iron set is only from 3I - 9I because having longer wedges did not make sense to me. I want my PW - GW - SW - LW to be easier to control than my other clubs. That doesnt mean I am right, and anyone using a full set of single length is wrong. It means it is right for me.

David offers the best guarantee in golf - try em - if you dont like em - return em. Compare that to the big OEMs like Callaway etc... buy em - use em - tell you in 6 months they arent as good as the new ones - trade em for 50% the price you bought em - start the merry-go-around again!!
