Subject: divots

David, The 1 iron concept is great but I am experiencing problems. I am very used to taking divots with my old conventional clubs but this doesn't seem to work well with the 1 iron clubs Are the clubs built to be picked rather than pinching the ball against the turf. I have always played with my hand foward of the club head and this makes a very steep descent to the ball. Do you have any suggestions or do some of the other readers. Thanks David for the superior quality of clubs and if the other readers have advise please let me know your habits and ideas. Rugga Mather

Rugga,

As per the Playability Tips that you received with your 1 Irons: you should only tick the ground through impact with your irons leaving just a small scar or burn mark on the turf. All of the irons within a set should be played in this manner as coming down too steeply into the ball (taking a large divot) delofts the clubface excessively. What you have to remember is that 1 Irons are not played like conventional golf clubs where you play the ball rearward in your stance with the short irons (deep divot) and then forward in your stance with the long irons (sweeping and no divot).

Rugga; What problems are you experiencing? I to play with my top hand angled forward. Is this your first time out using 1 iron clubs? Are you taking more divot, less divot or what?Brian

I am taking too much divot and hitting fat.Tjis is the first time with the clubs. I guess you need to pick the ball rather than hitting down as before

Rugga,Where are hitting balls this time of year? May just be a tempo thing, too much wrist break too early in the backswing. Maybe just too anxious with the new clubs and all. Give it a few more times when the weather is better so you can take your time. Brian
