Subject: release?

David just out of curiosity, based on your swing tips etc.
do you recommend a full release like a full swivel with the lead hand almost palm up or flat lead wrist during the swing untill after the ball is gone?

or even something like this go to Talygolf.com and take a look at this training aid I have it and use it mainly for the short game. Thanks Pedro

Pedro,

I do not think about my release at all as I completely trust the full release (rolling over of the hands and wrists) that occurs naturally at the bottom of the swing due to centrifugal force. I have found that those golfers who try to manufacture a certain release, especially those who try to artificially create a late release, never develop the potential control or power in their swing. My suggestion is to let the wrists and hands free-wheel through impact with no tension in the forearms. I believe that this is what Sam Snead was getting at when he said to hold the golf club with the same pressure as you would hold a live bird - no tension in the hands, wrists, and forearms so that a fully natural release can take place.

My personal opinion is, if your thinking of your wrists and hingeing you will be lost. let the swing flow from the body turn. much power there.

I've found that for my wrists to release naturally by centrifugal force, my wrists need to be in a "releasable" position at the top of the backswing. I developed the feeling by trial and error. I looked at my wrists at the top of the backswing and tried to make them look like the golfers on TV. Most of them have a similar wrist position. In the downswing I make sure there is no tension in my arms, wrists, or hands at all. After awhile I found something that worked pretty well.

It's one of the few things I think of during my swing. I start the backswing by moving club and arms in one piece with head completely still, this done by rotating the upper body. Top of the backswing, wrist feeling? Check. Relax arms, wrists, hands completely. Rotate upper body towards the ball so that I feel I'm hitting the ball with my right shoulder. This is all I think about, and it's all based on feeling. Lately I've been seeing excellent results.
