Subject: Conformance of 1 Iron clubs

I bought a set of 1 Iron Golf clubs 19 Feb 2008. They arrived here in Australia at my home exactly 1 week to the day later - in perfect order too.

For some reason I got instantly worried about whether or not these clubs conformed with R&A and USGA requirements - especially the new conformation rules that came into effect at the beginning of this year.

Unable to find any information about 1 Iron clubs on the R&A/USGA site I emailed David Lake at just gone 7 o'clock (Oz time) this morning (2 pm Sat USA time).

Within half an hour my worries were no more when I received the following from David Lake. (I hope that you don't mind me printing this, David?)

"Lance,

No golf clubs need to be sent to either the USGA or R&A for conformity evaluation as long as they are manufactured within these organization's specifications. In other words, all golf clubs are considered conforming by default unless they incorporate design elements outside of USGA or R&A promulgated specs. The design and manufacture of 1 Iron Golf clubs fall well within these promulgated specifications and are therefore in full conformity. This includes our driver, fairway woods, and irons.

So, anyone who has any concerns about the legality of your new 1 Irons in competition need worry no more.

As a side note that may be of interest: Jaacob Bowden (professional golfer) who has been playing 1 Irons for the past year will be competing in the PGA European Tour's Tusker Kenya Open next week.
