Thanks for asking this Kelly, I've been wondering the same thing. I haven't tried any of the 1 Iron woods or driver, but I have the irons and know I can boom the 4 iron despite it being significantly shorter than a normal 4 iron. I have a 37" W-T-F measurement, which I think means my woods and driver wouldn't end up too much shorter than those of most club companies, and I just have to wonder why they couldn't be a little shorter.

It is necessary to remember that the design function of a fairway wood is not the same as that of an iron. An iron is designed to hit down and through the ball via an upright swing plane whereas a fairway wood is designed to sweep the ball from the turf using a much flatter swing plane. These respective swing planes dictate their own respective club lengths – shorter for the irons and longer for the fairway woods.
