You can certainly do what you suggest; however, using only one iron for your test will not come close to illuminating the benefits of having a whole set of irons built to your correct club length. In other words, you will be able to see how you hit a PW that is the correct length but you will not be able to extrapolate those results to hitting a #3 iron of the same club length.
