Joel,

There is no particular method to use when chipping or making short pitch shots with 1 Iron Golf clubs. I would suggest that you use whatever method you are comfortable with. Personally, I never grip down on a club when pitching or chipping. On a pitch shot I simply take a shortened back swing, and on a chip I use my regular putting stroke.

David,

You have commented in earlier posts that you advocate a "wristy" putting stroke. I was wondering, does that mean that you use a similar wristy stroke when chipping? Which club do you chip with? Any recommendation at all regarding ball position, both for chipping and for putting itself?

Thanks for your time!

JR,

Putting and chipping are very individualistic in that they are truly "feel" shots. I believe that whatever method feels the most comfortable is the one to use. Personally, I prefer a wrist putting method using an upright posture and open stance. For chipping I use the same posture and open stance but do not use my wrists. I will say that I always use the same iron when chipping. Using different irons for every chip shot would be like using different putters on every green.

David
