Getting the most out of the
1 Iron Golf System™

The vast majority of golfers are used to playing standard length “off the rack” golf clubs that have never fit them properly. Consequently, they have been forced to make their swing fit these clubs resulting in a less than ideal address/swing posture and swing plane. Your new 1 Iron Golf™ clubs have been custom made for you based upon the ideal lie angles that we incorporate in relation to your wrist-to-floor measurement. This custom fitting results in golf clubs that will force you into the ideal address/swing posture and swing plane for maximum power and accuracy. Therefore it is normal to experience a learning curve where your body is adjusting to this new ideal posture and swing. For most golfers it will be a more upright posture than they are used to, and for some the opposite. In either case, it is not necessary for you to consciously try to make any swing changes as your body will adapt on it’s own through practice and repetition. For some golfers this learning curve will be very short, perhaps one or two trips to the range, while others may require more time. If you follow our suggested schedule below and adhere to the “Playability Tips” attached you will experience, over time, a more fluid and powerful swing then you ever thought possible.

We cannot overemphasize the importance of a number of trips to the range prior to playing a round of golf when switching to the 1 Iron Golf System™. The purpose of these trips is to ingrain the new neuro-muscular responses in a non-stressful situation. Swing changes simply cannot be made on the golf course, as one poor shot will mentally destroy any confidence in what you are trying to accomplish. The fact is that some golfers can overcome ingrained neuro-muscular responses very quickly while others need more time for these changes to take place. Either way, it requires practice at the range for a golfer to become comfortable and confident with any new swing change. We strongly recommend that no round of golf be played until this comfort and confidence level is achieved. The following is a suggested schedule to speed up the process of creating the new neuro-muscular links required by any swing change:

(Day 1): Go to the range and hit half shots only. Go through all of the irons and woods concentrating on using the same swing and center of stance ball position with all of them. Do not concentrate on the ball, but rather try to nick the ground at the point where the ball is resting. By hitting only half shots you will quickly develop your ball striking ability. Do not be tempted to hit full shots on this day. The reason you are only hitting half shots is so that you can concentrate on using the same swing for every shot regardless if you are using a #3 iron or PW.

(Day 2): Go to the range using the same routine you used on day 1. Warm-up by hitting a few half shots and then go to 3/4 and finally full shots. If you have trouble with the full shots go back to the half shots for a while. Do not be concerned with shots hit to the right or left, as you want to concentrate on solid ball contact and the development of power. Your body will unconsciously make the adjustments necessary to straighten out your shots through practice.

If your comfort and confidence level is high at this point then you can certainly play a round of golf and you should see definite improvement in your scoring and shot making. If you are still not completely comfortable then simply add another day at the range. Bear in mind that your ball striking ability and distance will continue to improve over time as the neuro-muscular links become more strongly ingrained.

1 Iron Golf ™
Playability Tips

• 1 Iron Golf™ fairway woods and irons are designed to be played using a center of stance ball position at address. This is in contrast to the varying ball positions recommended with conventional woods and irons. Therefore, it will take a few trips to the range in order to acclimate yourself mentally to this single ball position throughout your set of golf clubs.

• Do not sway rearward during the backswing or forward during the downswing. Try to keep your shoulders and hips in approximately the same position throughout the swing by imagining that you are swinging while standing in a chest-high barrel. Remember that you are trying to swing the club around your body, not out to the side. By keeping your trailing elbow close to your hip during the backswing you will find it easier to bring the club behind you. To ensure that you make a full backswing and are actually swinging the club around your body, your leading shoulder should be underneath your chin at the top of the backswing with your back facing the target.

• Use the same address position, swing posture, and swing plane for all of the woods and irons within a set. Do not be confused because you are hitting a wood, a #3 iron, #7 iron, or PW; keep everything the same.

• Do not over-swing. A comfortable and controlled swing will produce much better ball striking, distance, and accuracy than trying to overpower the shot. Do not hit with the arms, but rather, keep the arms relaxed and just let them go along for the ride using a slow and smooth swing around the body.

• Try to only nick the ground at impact creating a scuff or burn mark on the turf when hitting the irons as opposed to taking a large divot. This ensures the full effectiveness of the clubface loft angles.

• Keep your front heel firmly planted on the ground during the entire swing to maximize stability and the transfer of swing force.

• Do not make the mistake of going back and forth between your new 1 Iron Golf™ clubs and your old set of clubs. Your new 1 Iron Golf™ clubs have been custom fit to your individual specifications and will require a breaking in period so that your body can unconsciously make the neuro-muscular adjustments necessary to produce your new and ideal address/swing posture and swing plane. Going back and forth between your old and new sets of golf clubs will undermine this process and drastically slow your improvement.
