Subject: Short backswing with lots of power

Hi, after reading the various blogs I'm almost ready to buy a set of 1 Irons, however I have a question. I'm 50 and have very tight back and shoulder muscles as a result of an illness which restricts my backswing to 50-60% of a full swing, however I can still hit my 8 iron 140m and my driver between 230-240m. I get this distance by relying on timing and strength (brute?) - and not losing my balance. When I'm swinging well (lower body still and balanced) I hit a pretty good 8 iron and drive very straight. I'm a 10 handicap and everyone is always surprised I can hit so far with a very short backswing.

Unlike most decent golf swings which start with smooth progressive acceleration from the top, I start my downswing with "great gusto" which severely loads the shaft, hence I've always been fitted with a stiff shaft on irons and woods. My driver swing speed is only between 100 - 103mph, however if I play a regular shaft the club face stays open at impact resulting in a weak fade.

My short powerful swing doesn't work well on lofted wedges as I hit my sand and lob wedges very short compared to other irons, hitting them maximum 60m and 45m respectively with full power as they fly very very high. I should get 90m and 75m I'm sure. However I hit my Pitching wedge 105-110m.

So, given the above situations:
1. Will I be able to hit the 1 Irons with their Proprietary Shaft Optimization or will they lag and keep the face open at impact?
2. Will I hit the wedges correct distances relative to the other irons?

BTW, My favorite (safe) club is my 8 iron.

Thank you
Steve

Steve,

1) When you achieve the perfect balance between club-head and shaft there is no such thing as flex ratings. The club will produce peak performance regardless of your swing speed or swing tempo. Pros with extremely high swing speeds play our golf clubs as well as many ladies and seniors, and each realizes their full distance and control potential through precise balancing.

2) As long as you use the same set-up and swing with every iron you will realize the same distance gap between irons within a set. I hit my PW 120 yards carry; GW 110 yards carry; SW 100 yards carry; and LW 90 yards carry.
