Subject: Fifth Day with the 1-Irons

Lying in bed last night happened to read David's Swing Tips No 19 "Take Your Arms Out Of the Swing". Rushed out of bed (11pm), grabbed the #3 iron and began swinging as he describes. Suddenly realized that I had been blocking the ball on the range with long irons, ie not releasing the wrist at impact. Probably also with the mid/short ones which the spin masked?

Hit the range this afternoon and presto, with a much slower swing and looser wrists, the club turned over at impact with decent club head speed. This 3/4 swing produced an appropriate trajectory with a small draw, and carried over 180 yards - and very straight. I'll hold back on a full swing until further notice.

My Thursday game has been moved forward to tomorrow morning. Decided that I'll pay my 50 bucks money game bet upfront, not to put pressure me. Watch this space.

Are my 1-Iron Golf escapades interesting enough to continue this thread?

Steve M

Just like I posted to your other thread you needed an extra trip or two to the range before everything started to kick in. It sounds simple but learning to use the same swing and ball position with every club is not as easy as you think - it's a mental challenge. Since you've turned the corner you can expect to hit the ball farther and more consistently with every trip to the range you make.
