John: Just a thought about your loss of distance with the long (lower-lofted) irons. One of my students was having a similiar problem and after working with him for a few minutes, I realized he was simply not "finishing" the swing. To realize the maximum distance potential of all "full swing shots" with the 1-Irons, we must be accelerating thru the ball at impact, and the only way to do that consistently is to make a complete follow-thru, with your weight transferred to the front foot, your chest facing the target and the club completing it's swing path over your forward shoulder. I see a lot of golfers that just sort of "stop" their swing after ball impact, and wonder why their carry distance suffers. Simple problem, simple fix. Just remember, finish the swing!
