Paul: Just a little tip on how far to stand from the ball at address (this is what I teach my students that are having this problem): With the ball center-of-stance, go thru your normal set-up, take your grip and sole the club so the bottom line on the club face is parallel to the ground and square to the target line. Then point your nose AT the ball and move your body toward or away from the ball until the knuckle of the thumb of the top hand appears to be somewhere (depending on the club) on an imaginary line drawn parallel to the ground, between your nose and chin. Takes a little practice but this position will be the same for every 1-Iron so it's easy to ingrain. There are other ways to do this - just remember that every club swings the same, so if you can establish a "baseline distance", the club will leave at take-away and return to the same point at impact. If you "over-reach" or set up "too-close", your mind will try and compensate for the angle differences, the club cannot return to the same point and you end up with a mis-hit.
