Just wanted to share my latest rounds with the one iron clubs set. Good news is that after a couple of practice sessions and training rounds, I regained a fair distance with the irons (wedges to 7 iron). I compared the lofts of my old set, given that the old 7 had a few degrees less loft than my 1 iron 7, I would say the results are there.
As for the longer irons, 6 and 5, I still have work to do, because the yardage gap is not there so far and I hit them poorly most of the time. If I look for excuses, the course is extremely muddy due to our heavy winter rains here in Normandy, wich means it is almost impossible to get a clean contact...
As I said in my previous post, for high handicaper like me, the most striking benefit comes from the wedges and medium irons.
As for the fairway woods, the 5 is wonderful off the tee and I hit it quite regularly in lieu of my driver, the Loss of distance being more than compensated by increased accuracy. The 7 seems strangely less easy for me. I hit it rather short off the fairway.

Hi guys,
Few more training rounds during the WE. I am now pretty used to the mid-irons, hit them pretty decently. One of the things I discovered is that, among the excellent tips provided by David Lake about 1-iron swing, the "no-sway" seems pivotal. It makes a huge difference for solid contact and I am more confident now. Probably need a few more weeks of practice with the 6&5 irons because it's difficult to get rid of the old "long iron swing" habit...
Things are also much better with the 7 wood off the fairway since I tried to stick to the "no-sway" scheme.
