The fate of the thirteen accused -- James Joseph, 21:14:32 06/24/99 Thu (192.117.14.83/192.117.14.83)

Are the thirteen Iranian Jews arrested for spying being prosecuted? What are the exact charges? What kind of defence are they allowed? What is the punishment they face if convicted? International media is mostly silent on that subject, and it sure seems like witch-hunt from where I am standing.
Information and opinions are welcome.

Does Anybody knows if there is anyway we could contact are

Ba Salam. I was interested in emailing with my family in Iran too. I contacted Neda Rayaneh, one of the internet providers in Iran for info. They won't tell u alot, they normaly want your family in Iran to contact them. It is expensive(at least for my family), it would cost about 40-50 dollars a month. I decided to stay with AT&T and just call my family at no cost to them.
Let me know if you or anyone else know anything different.
Good luck

Dear friend,
Why do you want to disturb the late Shah of Iran? He was a great man, who cared for his country and the Iranian subjects. If he is criticised, how can a dead person reply. Think again!! You are alive today but are certain to die
one day, and that would be tragic, because of your meagre existence in this world, and no great achievements like the late Shah.Last but not the least, do not forget, that the Shah was a Benevolent Dictator who had to be strict with a fanatic and ignorant nation, which had to be harnessed into the 20th century. The poor man failed because of the constant opposition from the clergy, the leftists, and the greedy associates surrounding him, caring for no one but themselves. These were the subversive elements he had to curb and control, which necessarily had to result in putting them away like mad dogs, and I saw nothing wrong in that. But with his failing health, and shamefully let down by his so called allies, eg; America, France and the West in general, he was left alone in his sad and lonely last days on this ungrateful earth. May God rest his soul in peace. Now that the election is over, may good sense prevail in Iran, for progress and prosperity, brushing aside all the old useless slogans against foreigners, and other countries. Best course for Iranians is to follow the path of truthfulness and march towards that best light and avoid all dark and evil thoughts. Just follow the ancient Iranian philosophy of ( Humata,Hukhta, and Vhrashta) which translates into GOOD THOUGHTS, GOOD WORDS AND GOOD DEEDS. May the Iranian God go with you, and help you.
Hormoz.

She gave me a golden coin with the image of the Shah on one side, a lion with a sword on the other. I was told that most of these coins have been destroyed. What is the value of such a coin? Does it anger people of Iran to know such a coin still exists?

Shah -- Ali, 10:08:30 06/19/01 Tue (6d.dmz.monmouth.edu/206.25.164.6)

To my dear Iranians,
The Shah envisioned greatness for the country in that he wanted to make Iran the power in the Middle East. I just have to point to several facts to make my case about the great Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi. Not one life was lost in war during the rule of the Shah and compare that to the many that lost their life for nothing in the Iran-Iraq War. Iran had one of the greatest military's in the world and nobody would dare mess with the Shah and Iran. Once the Shah left, Saddam Hussein became the power man in that region and he has haunted the United States ever since. Before 1979, Saddam Hussein was nothing and he would not dare cross the Shah because the Shah could easily put him in his place. Look at the Iraqi military of today, they would crush Iran and leave it in shambles. The Shah must be turning in his grave about the danger that Iraq poses to the region. The Shah was a man of his word and I will forever live with the lasting impact he left on me. I am only 20, but the Shah will live with me past eternity. Therefore Iran must be entrusted to the people and God. If they want change they have to make it clear because Iran and its people are much more than what they are today.

Language Exchange Proposal -- martin, 15:07:43 10/17/01 Wed (cobognocinktx2.ifxcore.net/216.72.7.24)

Re: Authentic Language Exchange Proposal.

hi, i decided to post a message here as there was no where else to post it.
I'm looking for people who are very enthusiastic and motivated to learn English and who are willing to consider some kind of language exchange.

My native language is English (from London) and I am desperate to
learn and practice Farsi and Arabic.
I would be willing to discuss ANY proposal from anyone living in Iran
or an Arab country.

It may sound crazy, but i need to go and live in the country to experience the language in a native setting. I can not learn a language in a class room.

I am looking to live in a native speaking environment for 2-6 months or more.

I have a basic knowledge of written and spoken Farsi and Arabic.

I also speak fluent Spanish, as i have lived in South America for a few years.

I would even be willing to be a slave, teaching English/ Spanish in the morning and washing dishes in the evening..... So, if you've got family in Iran who want to practice their English/ Spanish... tell them not to miss this great opportunity. (no joke!!).
(i am a 27 year old male. I enjoy travelling, reading and learning languages ).

Any serious proposals welcome. bye.

On Cloning:

Thus far, no human has been cloned. Cloning is often misunderstood. It is only the process of artificial conception, using DNA from the cells of a mature creature. Once conception has taken place, the cloned creature must still be brought to term in a normal pregnancy, and grow up in a normal childhood. Only the conception is different, as the clone has DNA from only one source, not two parents.
Cloning, it seems, makes only males unnecessary. The female is still needed.

At this time, there is too little known about the long term effects.

Change of regime in Iran -- Leila, 12:36:52 08/27/02 Tue (NoHost/212.98.158.252)

Like so many of my compatriots, I live outside our country. If nostalgy is characteristic of Iranian culture, then I am really Iranian in all my genes. I am nostalgic of the beautiful streets of Tehran, of the smell of the khorecht of my grandmother and of hearing Persian whenever I go...When shall we get rid of these stinky cockroaches who are governing us? Things have to change. Fast. Before everybody suffoccates. If Iran has to be robbed, I prefer it be robbed by educated gentlemen rather than hypocritical filthy mullahs. Fed up of this terrible image Iran gives abroad because of those monkeys. Fed up to have to say that we have civilised human beings to ignorants. To all the young Iranians of my generation, I wish that our parents will one day return to their country Iran with joy and dignity. We don't need to be insulted anymore by stupid Americans, snobish Europeans or even Christian Arabs like it is my case! Let's all join our prayers (believers and non-believers) to ask for a better future for our land Iran.I dream of the day I will return to a free Iran and kiss its land.

CLONING -- Delegate of Iran in High School Model UN, 05:25:38 02/28/99 Sun (164.124.250.242/164.124.250.242)

Debate is furious.

Hello, I represent the country of Iran in this year's Model United Nations conference at my current high school. The issues include cloning and bio/chemical weapons.

I was having some arguments with fellow Muslim countries on the issue of cloning. I argued that cloning is against the will of Allah and that we should support a resolution which denounces all human, animal, and plant cloning.

However, some other Muslim delegates (including Egypt and Pakistan) say that plant cloning is acceptable. What does the Koran say and which view does Iran follow?

Also, Iran signed the Chemical Weapons Convention and Biological and Toxin Chemical Weapons but I am at a loss for words in what kind of resolution to write and who to ally with on this issue. Do i denounce all uses, production, and stock-piling of biochemical weapons?

Please feel free to contact me at sabinakwon@hotmail.com or by ICQ#28624561

Thank you.

-Delegate of Iran

Don't you think it is extremely hypocritical of the United States and Russia to prevent spread of nuclear, chemical and bilogical weapons while they are the world's LARGEST producers and havethe world's LARGEST STOCKPILES? I mean it is pathetic of these countries to cry wolf when they are the main cause of the problem. After all the only thing they are worried about is losing their military edge and strength over other countries.

The late Shah of Iran always said 'history will judge'
on his performance as a leader of our country. And that's
exactly what happened. Now we have come to believe the
he had high aspirations for his country. I felt the same messages thru the words of Reza Pahlavi and I trust him as
someone who cares for the future of our country and our countrymen unlike others who are destroying it.

I couldnt agree with you more about the Shah. The Shah had the right visions for the country, but the Iran was not ready to adapt so quickly and they are paying and suffering for it terribly. The Shah was an incredible man who wanted the best for his country and we will not see anybody like him ever again.

Anniversary of Shah's Death -- Ashkan, 22:38:49 01/15/99 Fri (h24-65-38-8.mt.wave.shaw.ca/24.65.38.8)

15-JAN-99

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) -- Iran's imperial flag flutters rather unmajestically next to the white-marbled tomb of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.

The lonely resting place of the shah of shahs -- or king of kings _ stands in stark contrast to the grandeur he knew during his rule over Iran, which ended 20 years ago Saturday.

A pitiful few pay homage at his grave in a carpeted, domed chamber in the 18th century Rifai Mosque in Islamic Cairo. The room is kept locked year-round; a caretaker opens the door for visitors.

The shah is now very much history in his homeland. The majority of Iranians were born after his 38-year-rule, and for most others, he's a distant memory.

The Islamic regime that ousted him isn't even bothering to mark the anniversary of his exile. State radio and television plan only their customary, brief documentaries on his departure.

His supporters, scattered around the world, do not want to look back at the humiliating demise of 2,500 years of monarchy.

"It's a bitter memory that we don't want to remember," said Ahmad Oveissi, a spokesman for the shah's heir, Reza Pahlavi. He spoke from Virginia.

Reza, 38, said in a fax to The Associated Press that Iran suffered after his father's departure.

"The people have paid a heavy price," he said. "What is important is that my fellow countrymen emerge with their heads high and witness the return of peace and prosperity in Iran."

The shah and his wife, Empress Farah Diba, left Iran on Jan. 16, 1979, as riots engulfed the country. Soon after, the revolution brought the Islamic republic to power and the royal couple never returned.

Before leaving, a tearful shah knelt down and kissed the ground; he took with him a handful of soil. News of his departure from Iran led to an explosion of joy on the streets of the capital, Tehran.

"SHAH'S GONE," screamed banner headlines. Strangers embraced, people danced and drivers flashed their headlights and honked their horns incessantly. Shops gave away sweets and taxi drivers offered free rides.

Crowds cheered as statues of the shah and his father, Reza Shah, were toppled. Revolutionary fervor and anti-American zeal culminated on Nov. 4, 1979, when Islamic students stormed the U.S. Embassy. They held 52 Americans hostage for 444 days.

Meanwhile, the shah and Farah wandered from one retreat to another -- Egypt, Morocco, the Bahamas, Mexico, the United States and Panama -- unable to find a friendly host.

"The world is cruel to losers," Farah, 59, said in a Lebanese television interview in November.

The shah died in Egypt at age 60, 11/2 years after leaving Iran. He spent his last lonely days in exile there, shunned by most world leaders and his own people.

In Iran, some elderly Iranians unhappy with the poor economy and the strict Islamic rules speak nostalgically of the days of wealth during the monarchy.

"I think the shah wasn't so bad," said Kaykavoos, who refused to give his full name.

The young, who do not remember the shah's despotic rule, see no use in looking back.

"The shah is dead," said Kiyumars Mehrabi, 21. "That's it."

You see that while we had queens and female scientists in Persia, the Arabs buried their new born babies alive if they happen to be girls... You see that we had poet and musicians like Barbod... Siply because we believed in:'goftar nik, pendaar nik, kerdaar nik'. And when Arabs attacked us we lost it all. The dark shadow of Islam conquered Persia and we became Muslim... We followed Islamic laws wich are cutting hands, hejab, believing in the death, washing your a** by sticking your finger into your..., praying 5 times etc. Untill about 75 years ago... Reza Shah ended the dark ages of Islam: banned hejab, banned dirty Islamic habbits... Persia of the new age actually looked like Europe... Even Europe didn't have the wellfare that we had... Our art was above western's... I'm saying this while I don't like Pahlavi's, I thank the Persian folk for it. Persia was a rich country. It was a bit like Persia of the Sassanian dynesty... Well, you know how the story ends my fallow Iranians! The Arabs attacked us again, just like they did 1400 years ago... What is left now of 'qhom-e aryai'? What do we have left? Kojast Zartosht ke bebinad bar sar-e peyrovanash che amad? Kojast Kourosh? Iranians are now either living in Iran under pressure and tortment of the Islamic regime, or living in forign contries hoping to get back home soon... Is this what is left of us... No, wait a minute... I'm left! I still believe in 'goftar nik, pendaar nik, kerdaar nik'... That's more than enough to be a perfect human-beeing. I said all this 8 Tir 1379 just in front of 400 people at Daneshgah-e Tehran... I didn't get caught... Because I believed in something... Do you believe in it too???
