Vicarious Productions in association with the St. Augustine Pride Committee proudly present the St. Augustine debut of the first touring production of Jade Esteban Estrada's landmark solo musical ICONS: THE LESBIAN AND GAY HISTORY OF THE WORLD, VOL. 1, directed by Jeff Wills and starring JADE ESTEBAN ESTRADA. The production is hosted by Limelight Theatre located at 11 Old Mission Avenue in St. Augustine, Florida. The performance will begin at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2004. From the island of Lesbos to the Sistine Chapel to the Stonewall Inn to "Yep, I'm Gay" on the cover of Time, Jade Esteban Estrada takes his audience on a whirlwind tour in ICONS: THE LESBIAN AND GAY HISTORY OF THE WORLD, VOL. 1. This charming parade of figureheads includes Sappho, Michelangelo, Oscar Wilde, Gertrude Stein, DeGeneres, and Sylvia Rivera, the street hustler who, along with many other gay folks, had had a very hard day on June 27, 1969, the day of Judy Garland's funeral. All she wanted was to "get drunk and dance" at her favorite club. In the wee hours, the police raided the bar, as they often did, but this time, Sylvia wouldn't cower and cry. She threw her shoe at them, and the Stonewall Riot came to pass. And it began Gay Liberation and domestic partnerships and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. As Oscar Wilde says here, "To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance."
Jade Esteban Estrada's debut CD ANGEL (Estrella Award & Timmy Award nomination) brought him international fame and led to his involvement in BEING OUT ROCKS, a historical CD compilation which included stars Cyndi Lauper, Sarah McLachlan, kd lang and the B-52s. His music can also be heard on the Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning police drama, THE SHIELD on FX. He also appears regularly on the Emmy nominated TV show IN THE LIFE and AMERICAN FAMILY on PBS. He is currently on location with the new feature film THE LEGACY OF WALTER FRUMM directed by Jordan Schachter.

Jade Esteban Estrada is a playwright, composer, singer, actor, choreographer and director. From 1996 to 2000 he was chief choreographer to Latin TV star Charo and now is the founder and artistic director for the Experiencia Dance Company in New York. His first one-man show IT'S TOO LATE…IT'S ALREADY IN ME which dealt with the AIDS epidemic and Latinos debuted at the 1997 Festival de Libre Enganche. His second solo play TORTILLA HEAVEN written by Celeste Angela Estrada (Gertrude Stein Literary Award 2004) debuted in 2002 at the Creative Place Theatre in New York. ICONS debuted at the 2002 Columbus National Gay and Lesbian Theatre Festival. ICONS: THE LESBIAN AND GAY HISTORY OF THE WORLD, Vol. 2 will debut at the 2004 Columbus National Gay and Lesbian Theatre Festival in September where Estrada will portray Mark Bingham, Alexander the Great, Harvey Milk and Queen Christina of Sweden among others.
