Regarding Foreign Workers who are denied basic human rights while living in Taiwan:

here are three telephone numbers to contact in Kaohsiung, an e-mail address and a web site in Taipei.

The telephone numbers will link a person to the Labour Concern Centre of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan, located in Nan-tze. Several years ago the Kaohsiung Municipal Government signed a contract with this centre to provide counsel and other services to foreign labourers in the northern half of the city (The Stella Maris mission in Yenching district does the same for the southern half of the city.)

Services include: counseling, labour relations, legal services, medical care, education& training, cultural activities, tours & recreation and Shelter.
The phone line for THAI language service is 366 2375, for English 366 2374. For a family that employs a domestic to talk to the staff of the centre in Taiwanese, they should use 366 2373.

Fax messages (in any language) can be sent to 366 2376

The centre operates a christian worship service in THAI every Sunday morning from 8:30 to 9:30
The E-mail address for the center is labour@seed.net.tw

The Government bureau free English Language hotline for foreign workers is 0800 885 885 Problems can be reported there.

In July of 2004 the bureau of employment and vocational training of the executive yuan published a bilingual pamphlet that was supposed to be provided to all foreign labourers who come to Taiwan. It comes in versions that are Chinese/English; Chinese/Thai; Chinese/Indonesian and Chinese/Vietnamese. It contains information on workers' rights, employers responsibilities, taxes, disputes and other matters.

The pamphlet is called What Foreign Workers in Taiwan Need to Know.

The bureau's web site is www.evta.gov.tw

This is what is on my desk at the moment. Call or check with some of the contacts provided above, and you'll probably get more materials and stuff.
